The standard of living in the Texas Hill Country has risen dramatically in the last few decades. Where families once eked out a meager from the rocky ground, tourists and retirees now enjoy the beautiful views, and many businesses flourish in rural towns that traditionally strapped for cash. Still, amid the rising tide of prosperity, there are many who lack the basic necessities of life. Fortunately , there are some compassionate neighbors who are helping; offering not only physical support, but also mobilizing the Hill Country community to share life skills and spiritual support to effectively impact the cycle of poverty.

Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries of Boerne is devoted to alleviating suffering by connecting the poor and needy with resources and relationships that transform lives . Founded by David and Agnes Hubbard in October of 2000 “in a garage, with no truck and no forklift,” the ministry has grown to include more than fifty area churches, two hundred and fifty volunteers, 10,000 square feet of warehouses, three trucks and, yes, one indispensable forklift.

It was David’s friendship with Seth Kuehn (who founded Daily Bread Ministries of San Antonio in 1996) that got the Hubbard’s started. “Seth inspired us and gave us the confidence to go ahead, “Agnes says. “Once we said yes, things started happening very quickly”. The Hubbards work as a team directing the ministry, each bringing their special talents to the job. Agnes Hubbard is on site full-time as director of Daily Bread Ministries, while David still works at his “day job” in the veterinary pharmaceutical business. Their enthusiasm and organizational skills keep the work going and growing.
